Obviously the Teen Mom buzz since the finale aired has been all about Ryan Edwards. And for good reason! I don’t know how they do it in Tennessee, but it seems like if a wedding day starts off with the bride getting pissed off & punching the groom so he doesn’t pass out & kill them both, I don’t think that’s a good omen.
Ryan is out of rehab, and people are already making some serious claims about how he’s doing now. Wet Paint reported that Ryan was only in rehab for two weeks, and has already relapsed since being out. The source they cite, a Facebook group called Teen Mom Updates, seem to base their accusations on… nothing at all. Plenty of speculation, 0 actual sources.
So let’s look at the timeline. We know that Ryan married Mackenzie (and made the drive that caused 1000 panic attacks) on May 15, according to the Hamilton County, TN clerk’s office.
It’s been speculated that the reason for the sudden rush was that Ryan was going to rehab the very next day. Maybe he needed to get on Mack’s health insurance plan first. Some fans have also wondered if Mack rushed the wedding because she was afraid he wouldn’t want to marry her once he got sober. Honestly, I think either of these are possibilities. Why else would she call a random minister about possibly marrying them, and then within a couple of hours, they’re married by a stranger with Dee Snider hair? That’s insane behavior!
It seems a little more likely that a few days elapsed after the parking lot wedding before Ryan began treatment. When we first broke the news about his treatment, it was June 4th and Ryan had allegedly been in rehab for two weeks – which would mean he was admitted by May 21.
Then last week, we reported that Ryan was out on Father’s Day weekend. Therefore, Ryan was almost certainly in rehab from at least May 21 through June 17, but I suspect he went in a little earlier – again, maybe even right after that quickie sunglasses wedding. But he was definitely in rehab for more than two weeks, and possibly for a full 30 days.
However, even if Ryan did do a 30-day stint in rehab, it may not have been enough for the kind of drug addict he is. A Twitter user tagged Mackenzie in a photo of what appear to be track marks on Ryan’s arm from a scene in the show. I took the below screen shot while watching episode 26, “We Are Family” – the scene is right after Mackenzie purchases her first wedding gown. Ryan appears to have a track mark on the top of his left wrist:
At this point, we can only speculate, but it sure seems like Ryan may have been shooting up. I’ve taken anxiety meds before, and the way Ryan was nodding off in the car seemed very extreme for having taken just Xanax. If those wounds really are track marks, and Ryan was using to the point of injecting opioids, fans are left to wonder if 30 days in rehab is really enough to help him.
On the bright side, for the time being at least, he seems to be doing pretty damn well! He was quoted in Us Magazine saying “I am back home now doing well, and life could not be better.” It appears that he and Mackenzie went on a beach vacation also. He’s looking much healthier and his wild eyes are GONE! Though they will forever live in my nightmares.
What has MTV had to say about this whole dumpster fire that occurred on their program? They told People that the network does “not condone driving under the influence”. Mmmm, okay, but what if it gets you really REALLY good ratings? Then do you kind of condone it? Just a li’l maybe?
What do y’all think about this? Did Ryan cut his rehab stint short, or did he stay for a full 30-day program? And either way, is it enough to keep him clean?
